Session teaser

What are the experiences from the technical bodies interaction with public policy demands? How to find an effective technical policy through standards? Is there any potential role of regulation in the deployment of core internet innovation? How might the privacy and security be influenced by evolution in technical standards? How to set up the functioning of technical standards to decrease concerns related to privacy, security and encryption?

Session description

There is a wide need for continuous dialogue related to policy and technical standards. They are heightened general discussions from different constituencies about the regulation of the internet concerning also political and technical approaches. It seems the understanding of technology evolution is not sufficient as well as the comprehension meaning of privacy and security generally in the digital age. The discussion will provide space for enlarging debate on different topics, for instance, technical standards and deployments fostering DNS over HTTPS/DoH, TLS-connections and the role of regulation or self-regulation of DNSSEC, IPv6, RPKI and UA/IDNs.

Format

The session will be organized as a panel discussion with live interaction with the public. The panel comprising representatives from different stakeholder groups together with strong moderators will outline the hot topics of this session. In addition, the panel will open a discussion allowing the audience to use live questions and to voice their concerns related to the main points and discuss them within this environment. This session should lead to stimulation and interaction of serious discussions by contributions of various stakeholder groups that bring new conclusions or most probably new crucial questions for the wider public.
