'''Until 10 May 2017.'''
The General Data Protection Regulation [GDPR] is a European Union body of laws regulating the way your personal data may be gathered, used, stored and transferred.
Its impact is global as it endeavors to regulate data pertaining to European citizens and residents wherever their data might be gathered, used or stored: For instance, it you buy something from a vendor in the Brazil or in China or open an account with an US-based game or social media company.
The GDPR is of special interest for all actors in the domain name industry as personal data are usually publically visible in the WHOIS service. It also affects all actors, from the registrar or reseller where you buy a domain name to the technical provider, escrow service and ICANN.
While GDPR has been in force since 25 May 2016, it will apply in full starting 25 May 2018. The EU has announced to strictly enforce the GDRP.
