Michael J. Oghia is a Belgrade-based consultant, editor, and researcher working within the digital policy, Internet governance, and media development ecosystems, specifically focusing on access, capacity building, digital rights, infrastructure, and sustainability. He is currently the advocacy and engagement manager for the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), a member of the Steering Committee of the Internet Rights and Principles Coalition (IRPC), and an Associate Member of the EuroDIG Support Organisation.

Michael previously served as:

  • EuroDIG 2020: Co-moderator and organising team member for Plenary 4
  • EuroDIG 2019: Co-focal point for WS 8 and Plenary 7, as well as an organising team member of WS 12
  • EuroDIG 2018: Organising team member of EDU 3 and organiser of Flash 10: Right to be Forgotten
  • EuroDIG 2017: Focal point and moderator for WS 11
  • EuroDIG 2016: Focal point for WS 1 and organising team member of WS 4

Bio

Michael is a third culture kid (TCK) and a connector at heart with professional experience in conflict resolution, journalism & media, policy, and development across five countries: The United States, Lebanon, India, Turkey, and Serbia. Michael has lectured on Internet governance at the Media and Digital Literacy Academy of Beirut (MDLAB), and frequently writes about development, digital rights, and the relationship between the Internet, the environment, and sustainability. He holds a Master of Arts in sociology from the American University of Beirut, and a Bachelor of Science in sociology from the University of Louisville. Michael also loathes referring to himself in third person.
