When we use the word "empowerment" we do not necessarily understand the same thing. To empower an internet user, and more specifically a young one, could have several meanings:
- to create a safer online environment;
- to protect the users from malevolent acts;
- to educate users raising their awareness of online risks; teaching digital and media literacy and skills;
- to give the users tools to ask for support and advice;
- to provide positive content, etc.
   
   
The session aims to define ways to empower more people to make best use of the opportunities that digital technologies provide in order to assist economic development, competitiveness, education, social sphere.

Do we use internet in the right and safe way or do we have to be taught to?

Session description

Session full title: "Internet users' empowerment: Opportunities vs. risks"

When we use the word "empowerment" we do not necessarily understand the same thing. To empower an internet user, and more specifically a young one, could have several meanings:

- to create a safer online environment;

- to protect the users from malevolent acts;

- to educate users raising their awareness of online risks; teaching digital and media literacy and skills;
