Session teaser

Recent years have shed a spotlight on the importance of empowering youth in governance processes. The European Union (EU) and the Association of South Asian Nations (ASEAN) dedicated 2022 to youth, and the Commonwealth dedicated 2023. The United Nations (UN) Secretary General included in his report Our Common Agenda recommendations for “meaningful, diverse, and effective youth engagement through better political representation, transforming education, skills training, and lifelong learning.” There have been youth events at EuroDIG since it’s the early years and it is time to look back on a decade of youth participation in Europe and beyond.

Session description

The Youth Dialogue on Internet Governance (YOUthDIG), the youth programme of the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG), as we know it today was established in 2017. It brings together youth from the pan-European continent to learn and exchange on issues pertaining to the Internet. An interactive programme created and organised by former YOUthDIG participants for new YOUthDIG participants to help newcomers navigate the European Internet governance landscape, identify the different actors, and understand the processes and terminology related.

Format

After a presentation of the research on meaningful youth participation made by Nadia Tjahia we invite organisers of European National and Regional IGFs to an exchange on youth participation.
