National and EU law is full of copyright restrictions hampering open access on science, culture and other – even public – sources. There are plenty of initiatives and projects across Europe (and abroad) to challenge and overcome such restrictions and to promote open access in various fields. On the other hand, there is a well organized and powerful content and rightholder industry preventing overdue copyright reforms for the digital age. Progress into this direction is still on a snail pace by and struggling over stumbling blocks. This WS will outline and discuss related concepts and initiatives for a European copyright approach fit for the digital age. | |||
