In January 2018 the European Commission adopted a Digital Education Action Plan which includes 11 actions to support technology-use and digital competence development in education. This session seeks to present the education action plan and host a discussion on its components and implementation.

Session description

The European Commission adopted in January 2018 new initiatives which seek to improve key and digital competences of European citizens with the aim to promote common values and inclusion and students' awareness of the functioning of the European Union. One of the proposed initiatives is the Digital Education Action Plan which outlines how the EU can help people, educational institutions and education systems better adapt to life and work in an age of rapid digital change. This session seeks to present the EU Digital Education Action Plan and address the three priorities in discussion with a key participant. Afterwards an open discussion with the floor will address digital education in Europe and the implementation opportunities.

Format

The moderator will present an overview of the EU Digital Education Action Plan and discuss its components with Key Participant Jutta Croll from Stiftung Digitale Chancen. After this we will open the floor to explore how digital education is addressed in Europe and how implementation can be facilitated.
