What is this session about?(1 sentence) Deadline 10.April 2015 Towards Internet Universality: UNESCO’s Comprehensive Internet Study and new research on “Principles for governing the Internet”

UNESCO takes the occasion to present its finalized comprehensive Internet Study titled “Keystones to Foster Inclusive Knowledge Societies: Access to information and knowledge, Freedom of Expression, Privacy and Ethics on a Global Internet”, as well as the Outcome Document of the “CONNECTing the dots” conference which was based on the findings of the Internet Study.

As one of the key area of the comprehensive Internet study, UNESCO has conducted a comparative study on Internet Governance principles (declarations, normative frameworks and accountability measures) which have been developed and adopted by various stakeholders, and analyze the compatibility and completeness of existing documents with respect to UNESCO's mandate and positions, as encompassed by the draft concept of "Internet Universality" (IU) and the R.O.A.M. framework (meaning the four principles of IU: Human Rights based, Openness, Accessible for all and Multistakeholder participation), and to identify any gaps.

Meanwhile, a useful online resource has been launched by UNESCO, which presents the about 80 existing documents regarding Internet Governance principles adopted by various stakeholders:
