Debates: Disinformation in the Social Media Space
This interactive session explores the complex dynamics of disinformation, social media influence, and the evolving boundaries of free speech in today’s fast-paced digital landscape. Participants will examine real-world examples that highlight the speed and scale at which misleading content spreads online, influencing public opinion and policymaking. The discussion will also delve into the role of artificial intelligence as a tool for detecting user interests and creating echo chambers. In parallel, growing concerns around data privacy and the use of personal information by algorithms and platforms will be explored. Through small-group activities, debates, and critical discussion, YOUthDIG members will directly engage with differing and often conflicting viewpoints. These structured exchanges are designed to foster open dialogue, challenge personal biases, and sharpen analytical thinking. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the tensions between free expression, digital ethics, and the regulation of online content.
