Impact of Social Media on Mental Health
This 30-minute session explores the impact of social media on mental health, beginning with a 10-minute introduction that presents key research findings on the topic and highlights common concerns such as cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and social comparison, followed by a brief Q&A to engage participants. Next, participants will be divided into groups for a 10-minute collaborative activity where they brainstorm strategies to promote positive mental health online, with each group focusing on a specific area, like self-care or reducing stigma. The final 10 minutes are dedicated to group presentations, a facilitated discussion on the feasibility of their proposed strategies, and the shared responsibility of social media companies, users, and policymakers in fostering a mentally healthier online environment.
